Filming: Day 2 - Camden

Location: Camden Lock

For our second filming day, we headed to Camden Lock. We met at Stratford at 9 a.m, as we wanted to ensure we had the best lighting and the most time possible in Camden before heading home. I had to return home by 2 p.m and Yoli also had plans in the afternoon so the day in general felt a little rushed and chaotic.

This was the first time that I had worked with Robyn or Arthur, but I was really pleased with how they appeared on camera. As cast members, they were cooperative and enthusiastic.

Yoli was head director and camera woman for the day - taking charge and recognising what she wanted, Yoli kept the day rolling smoothly. We both spotted shots we thought may look good in our video, and captured different perspectives of the same scene as Yoli thought this worked well last time.

Unlike last time however, we hadn't written a specific plan of the shots we wanted to capture. One of the reasons for this was because Camden is less familiar than Yoli's own house, and due to things we can't predict until we're there on the day (such as weather, busyness etc.) we wanted to experiment and improvise on the day. This didn't work as efficiently as a plan, of course, but it meant we ended up with perhaps some more creative shots.

One of the shots we tried to create included an areal shot. As the camera we were using has an automatic focus, we had to attach it to the tripod, aim it in the general direction of Robyn and Arthur, and hope for the best. The footage we achieved is shaky, mostly blurry and featured Robyn and Arthur in a quarter of the frame. If we were to try and learn from this, as camera women, we would attempt to put more height between what we're filming and ourselves. This way, we don't need to attach the camera on the tripod and hold it higher than our heads, causing us to be unable to see what's happening. As long as we're able to view what we're recording, we know our shot will be clear. We may attempt another areal view from Yoli's treehouse, or from a ladder.

One of the shots we were really happy with was a pull focus. We had found a fish shaped lock attached to a fence and had Robyn and Arthur on the other side of the river, next to a spray painted sunset featuring a silhouetted couple. Overall, the shot is simply extremely aesthetically pleasing, and will hopefully make it into our final video.
