Initial Song Ideas

My group and I came up with some initial song ideas before moving forth with our project. Some of our ideas include the following three:

Build a Boat - Maisie Peters

Maisie Peters is a young, student songwriter I came across on Twitter - she uploads her original songs onto YouTube but not many of them have official music videos. Maisie uses lots of imagery in her music and this song in particular connotes to a lot of scenes I picture in my head that I'd be excited to film (such as cross cutting between a paper boat and sail boat). I would also like to try a hand at more advanced editing techniques, such as bolder colour gradients and using Photoshop.

Leaving - Katy Forkings

I particularly really liked this song by Katy Forkings. As a local, young student artist, I hoped that we would not only be able to gain permission to use her song, but also largely feature her in our project. As someone we're easily able to communicate with, I would hope not only to produce a music video I wanted, but also include the artist's vision too. I could see a lot of potential aesthetically with the song - using block colour lighting such as red, blue and purple hues in order to portray the passion of the song. I also pictured a pouring rain scene - however, due to low budget, it's unlikely this may happen without vivid practical imagination.

Not Alone - Harry Gardner

After seeing him feature on 'Britain's Got Talent', Yoli was inspired by this song and suggested we create a music video for it. We believe that as the topic of the song is resides in our hearts and is very close to home, we would be able to conduct such a sensitive subject well. However, after going through the location scouting process for our last year's coursework (when making a film), we discovered how difficult it is to gain filming permission, especially in places such as hospitals. Additionally, we aren't sure that the tone of the song is correct for us wanting to show off the skills we learn throughout this coursework - the song is honest and raw, it may not work well with us wanting to explore Photoshop and experiment with video editing.
